Review of The Last Samurai (2003) by Valéria V — 27 Oct 2011
Beautifully shot against the backdrop of a vanishing legend of a great country. A good breakthrough performance by Ken Watanabe as the last leader of the Samurai in this film. Lots of good moments evoking great drama and production values.
However, one of the criticisms I would state about this film, despite the story being quite moving in the sense that it's about the modernisation of country with a big cultural history and the loss of its traditional and profound values of a nation, it veers on being quite cliched and predictable in terms of how the story progresses.
But finally, it works as a historical epic film and believe me, it's worth the watch.
