This is one of the most amazing films I've seen in a long time. The story revises popular conceptions of the 50s and small town life. It presents us with complicated characters and the difficult situations they navigate.
These characters are expertly portrayed by Bottoms, Shepherd, Bridges, Leachman, Johnson and the rest of the crew. Bogdanovich presents their inner thoughts without ever resorting to voice-over narration.
I wish all films were this great.
