Review of The Last Picture Show (1971) by Darryl J — 12 Feb 2008
I had no idea what this movie was about when I got it. That's probably the best way to go into this movie.
Peter Bogdanovich is a great director. I've never felt part of a world more than this film. The way he displays this isolated and desolate town is pretty amazing. Every shot just enhances the feeling of bleakness in the town. The cinematography is stunning. I'm glad he chose to film in b&w. It's a lot more effective and only adds to the mood of the film.
I've never heard of Timothy Buttons before this movie. He was my favorite character in this. All the actors were perfectly cast. Cloris Leachman was also phenomenal. The last scene really got me.
This movie also has a timelessness to it. It really put a whole new meaning to being hopeful and desperate.
