Review of The Last Picture Show (1971) by Mark W — 21 Apr 2009
Decadent and droll observation of one-horse-town southern life is certainly potent in its depiction of youthful naivete and sexual awakening, but Bogdanovich and Larry McMurtry's screenplay is little more than a series of vignettes.
Leachman and Johnson (not to mention an impressive Bridges in his leading film debut) add depth and soul to otherwise cardboard figures.
