Review of The Last Picture Show (1971) by Pavan R — 26 Jan 2012
A grim rendition of the messy decisions and aimless foolishness of a generation of post-war brats in a ghost town. The film is almost blind in its devotion to cynicism, its broader implications all gloom and disappointment; and the disparate side stories of individual characters, while they seem to make the same point, are not woven together in a particularly cohesive way.
A few weak performances and stagey scenes aside, though, it's a powerful film.
