Review of The Last Picture Show (1971) by Jonathan W — 21 Jun 2004
I'm spending a few days at my grandmother's house, and it turns out she has the internet now, so I may be able to post on a few movies this week. It did surprise me a bit that she now had internet access, after all, the house she grew up in didn't even have running water and electricity until the 1950's. She's 77 and not good with technology, she can barely play a tape in a VCR without getting frustrated. But she's always very loving and trying to please when she has me or my siblings over. We're gonna probably do a little clothes shopping later, which we usually do at least once in the summer.
On another note, she also has a dish and I caught the classic Peter Bogdanovich film "The Last Picture Show" last night. Liked it a lot, didn't quite love it. I can tell already that I'll probably love it after I've seen it a few more times though. Great acting by all involved, especially the very young Jeff Bridges. And Cybill Shepherd was HOT in her younger days.
Also went to visit my dad's cousin, who lives in the house next to grandmother's (my dad's brother and my grandmother's sister own the houses that bookend these, my family owns 4 neighboring houses on this road), and he likes to watch movies when I'm there. We watched Down with Love (his first viewing and my third). He liked it a lot and once again I had a smile on my face for almost the whole movie. It was one of the criminally underseen movies of last year IMO. Anyway, I'm off for now. Hope to see more movies and update again tonight or tomorrow.
