Review of The Last of the Mohicans (1992) by Ricardo O — 11 May 2010
The Last Of the Mohicans is the third and probably best adaptation of the classic historical novel. This adaptation is a riveting, superlative piece of filmmaking. The script is historically accurate and doesn't dumb down the Native American characters like many westerns of yesteryear.
Michael Mann's direction is a thing of beauty. The action and pacing is terrific and while the violence is quite bloody, it isn't gratuitous but very well done. All of the actors are fantastic especially Daniel Day-Lewis as one of cinema's greatest heroes Hawkeye and Wes Studi as the villain Magua.
The cinematography is terrific and the film is heightened by the fantastic score that adds plenty of emotion in many of the scenes. The Last Of the Mohicans is absolutely a must-see movie. One of the best films of the '90s.
A great film! 10/10.
