Review of The Last of the Mohicans (1992) by Aaron V — 24 Dec 2013
Great shots of beautiful landscapes, a gripping musical score by Randy Edelman, and the usual outstanding performance by Daniel Day-Lewis are immediately noticeable from the first scene to the last. The strong violence leaves at least a few moments of tragedy and terrible brutality lodged into memory for years down the road.
To it's credit, the story ignores the Hollywood formula of staging characters, presenting a conflict, and guiding the characters through the conflict, in favor of a complex set of various characters with conflicting interests and a moment-to-moment series of events.
