Review of The Last Mimzy (2007) by James H — 27 Nov 2009
I really do think that this is a bad film. It may be a kids film, but it's one of the worst kids films I've ever seen. It's got a wierd plot, bad acting and some of the silliest dialogue ever.
Jo Wilder (Joely Richardson) goes on vacation with her son Noah (Chris O'Neil) and daughter Emma (Rhiannon Leigh). The two kids find a strange box on the beach, and within the box are strange toys. One is a bunny rabbit which is taken by Emma. She says that the rabbit's name is Mimzy, and she talks with it. Meanwhile, Noah begins to do extraordinary things. he is able to talk with bugs and he can teleport things. But soon, they find out that the box was sent to them for a reason and that the future of mankind depends on them. This is based on a short story, and I do think the plot is reasonable - but it's still ridiculous. The characters are FUCKING annoying! Emma is cute but is extremely irritating. Noah is also pretty annoying. The only character I liked was Mr White, Noah's science teacher. He was pretty funny. The dialogue is terrible.
The acting was very bad. The two lead actors - Rhiannon Leigh and Chris O'Neil were terrible. They couldn't act. The only actor that I thought was decent was Rainn Wilson.
This is a terrible film. It's got wierd concepts. They don't really do much with the special effects that I would call impressive. Wouldn't reccomend this one.
