Review of The Last Legion (2007) by Maxwel L — 01 Feb 2009
This movie was awful. I enjoy watching Ben Kingsley, Colin Firth, and Kevin McKidd, whose portrayal of Lucius Vorenus in HBO's "Rome" was excellent. However, their talents couldn't do much with the poor script they were given.
The film editing was sub-par even for a cheesy TV show. The one star, then, is for the way the story sets itself up as a crossover between Roman history and the Arthurian legend, with a sprinkle of Beowulf for flavor.
Hrothgar was the king of the Danes prior to Beowulf. I'd bet that McKidd's character "Wulfila" was an attempt to poach some of the notoriety of that other character, especially as this movie was released two months prior to Zemeckis' interpretation.
However, these affectations can't justify the spending of nearly two hours to watch this movie.
