Review of The Last Kiss (2006) by Kieron B — 07 Oct 2008
SPOILER: Zach Braff, stick to comedy, and seeing as how Scrubs has officially gone to hell, I'm afraid your only talent is identifying the perfect music to encapture emotion. The most enjoyable sequence (even though it's characters I didn't feel for) is when Braff's character is waiting outside his girlfriend's porch for days (perhaps a week or two) through rain and cold nights just to talk to her.
What makes this sequence poetic is the divine music from Coldplay: 'Warning Sign.' Apart from this sequence, I didn't care for the movie. It started off as an examintaion of various characters but then just zoomed in on Braff: who has a bizaare belief that shouting your lines and swearing, sometimes simultaneously = good acting.
it does not. And Braff's steady girlfriend in the film is HORRIBLY over the top. Screaming, yelling, crying and interjections of what I guess were 'strong sandess laced with murderous rage and depression'.
When I think of this movie I think of yelling, crying, swearing and long moments of silence. If you can make it all the way through, the final sequence is all this film has to offer.
