Review of The Last Kiss (2006) by Ola G — 14 Dec 2008
Michael (Zach Braff) and Jenna (Jacinda Barrett), a solid couple, is planning to get married and start a family. Jennas pregnancy is the part of the plan that comes first. Michael feels happy in his situation, but yet he feels in doubt that his life and his youth will be over for good. That there will be no more sursprises in life.
At a wedding of a friend, Michael meets a free-spirited college co-ed, Kim (Rachel Bilson), who sidetracks him on a path that might ruin his relation with Jenna. At the same time, none of the relationships of the people surrounding Michael and Jenna are happy and stable. Michaels friend Izzy is unwilling to let go of his childhood sweetheart Arianna; Kenny is a stud who fears commitment; and Chris (Casey Affleck) is a co-worker who is dominated by his neurotic and overbearing wife over raising their newborn son. Even Jennaâ??s parents, Stephen and Anna, are experiencing problems in their long-suffering marriage. Relations are not easy and the involved will learn all sorts of lessons during their different hardship.
I would say that "The Last Kiss" feels "real" in its narrative and the great acting from Zach Braff and Co has a big part of it. As said relations are not easy and we have all been hurt one way or another when in a relation. And sometimes you need to go down the hard road to discover the truth and your true path. My only minus is Zach Braff in a way. He is unfortunatley very one dimensional as an actor. Which is a shame, because I like him as well. Not seen much with Rachel Bilson, but she is cute and radiant. "The Last Kiss" is good, emotional and "real".
