Review of The Last Kiss (2006) by Tyler N — 20 Feb 2009
Rarely does a film get a five star rating from me. It requires that I can find little or no room for improvement in reaching its goals, and it also requires that said goals are worth-while/admirable.
Garden State was good, but this film is far more mature. A great deal of unrealistic crap happens in it, but I agree with this choice, because it's a film, not reality, and it makes its point gracefully.
I think the most impressive thing about the film is how well it emphasizes the emotional trauma of the main character(s) by not ignoring that of each of the supporting characters. The resulting overall impact is far greater than that of the sum of its parts.
The title of the film is very misleading... it sounds generic and forgettable. In fact, it's just a bad title. What would make a more appropriate title? I'll have to get back to you...
