Review of The Last Kiss (2006) by Kien P — 09 Jun 2009
You have to watch enough mediocre romance movies like me to understanding how hard it is to make a good romance movie.
"The Last Kiss" is a lot like a recent production, "He's just not that into you" which is packed with A-list Hollywood movie stars but Director Tony Goldwyn's story is so well-written and so well-plotted that it does not even matter. (actually, Rachel Bilson is in there. She's semi A-listed right?).
The movie delivers several messages about relationships which are quite relevant to a country like the US with a high rate of divorce. Let's face it, relationships are easy to form but hard to keep.
People pass about the word "love" like candies during Halloween but they turn around and do stupid things that "love" (if it has a say) would have nothing to do with them. A quote from the movie says it best, "Every asshole in the world says he loves somebody. It means nothing....What you feel only matters to you. It's what you do to the people you say you love, that's what matters. It's the only thing that counts. ".
Yet, we have to admit, as human beings, we do mess up occasionally. And, instead of giving up, we can try to amend our mistakes. It might take some relentless efforts and even a couple epic failures to do so but hey, "you can't fail if you don't give up," right?
Watching terrible productions like "Bride Wars" or "Friends with Money" or "Message in a Bottle" or "College" motivate me greatly to appreciate movies like "The Last Kiss.".
I love it when I just totally stumble on a good movie like this and fall in love with it truly madly deeply.
If you're a movie fan somewhat like me, do yourself a favor and watch this.
