Review of The Last Kiss (2006) by Mimi S — 28 May 2013

Grade: C.

This film wasn't particularly enlightening or refreshing and to be fair a bit dull. Gosh this film proves there's not much hope in finding a meaningful, passionate and strong relationship these days. The Last Kiss is about a fairly decent guy, Michael (Zach Braff who reminds me a lot of my ex)who is in a stable relationship with his girlfriend Jenna (Jacinta Barrett- who I found completely annoying in this). Although Michael loves Jenna, he feels a bit trapped especially when he learns that they're having a baby and when college student Kim (Rachel Bilson) makes a move on him he finds himself gradually reciprocating her advances in order to see if he's missing out. Ultimately when Jenna finds out and dumps him he's desperate to win her back.

Michael turns into a bit of a jack-ass and you just want to thump him and knock some sense into him; you can't love someone if you cheat on them you bloody idiot! And Jenna you just want to slap as she spends most of the time wailing so loud like a banshee your eardrums could burst and practically trying to batter Michael to death. It's just too funny to be considered serious. Fair enough anyone would hit the roof if their other half cheated, but no need to go to that extreme love.

This film is just ultimately annoying with irritating characters. Kim was equally annoying as the clingy, free-spirited and love-struck teenager who becomes a bit too obsessed with Michael. Zach Braff and Rachel Bilson were fairly decent in this film though so you can't fault them on that; I just found Jacinta Barrett far too dramatic and at times wooden. The film was 100% awful, but just depressing to see how fed up people get in relationships. At least its honest as many couples go through it. Still pretty depressing and makes me cynical about relationships. Then again it's only a film.
