Review of The Last King of Scotland (2006) by Alex H — 14 Sep 2009
A slightly Oscar-baity thriller but still pretty nifty. Forest Whitaker did a great job as Idi Amin, but James McAvoy in my opinion was better as the young naive doctor. Usually this sort of "based on a true story" stuff really grinds my gears as trying to keep it as an acurate historical account will mean that it won't be quite as entertaining, whereas if they go for all out entertainment then they may have as well just made it all up.
Anyways it was tense and entertaining and showed how easy it is for people to be influenced by these scumbags because they usually have an extremely charismatic side to get into power in the first place. Good film.
