Review of The Last King of Scotland (2006) by Andy P — 31 Mar 2013
Words cannot do this film justice. This movie is a movie that is almost impossible to forget. The roles played by James McAvoy, and Forest Whitaker are perfection at its finest.
The Last King Of Scotland is the story of Nicholas Garrigan a young doctor who puts his faith on chance. He decides to spin a globe, and wherever his finger lands, that is where he will go. He ends up going to Uganda, a place where a new president is taking over, Idi Amin. After landing in Uganda, Nicholas gets right to work. But after a coincidence, he "saves Idi's life", and then gets offered to be his primary doctor. He of course accepts the job. The first half of the movie is basically him going to Africa, and enjoying himself with Idi. But the second half is much more dramatic. This is when the movie takes a terrific turn. Idi seems to lose his mind, and Nicholas is sleeping with one of Idi's wives. From here on out the movie keeps your eyes glued onto the screen for every second.
The Last King Of Scotland has so many haunting scenes because of the man Idi is, and the man he pretends to be. Forest Whitaker really plays his role amazingly, and definitely deserved an Academy Award. Although he puts in one of my favourite performances ever, my favourite character in this was James McAvoy's character, Nicholas. He also did an extremely good job in this, and his character is extremely likable.
The Last King Of Scotland is a brutal thriller, and definitely is worth anybodies time.
My Rating is.
100%.
