In being filmed as beautifully as it is, this remake loses some of the will-burn-itself-into-your-memory grit of its progenitor... which is probably not be a bad thing.
It's still just as gut-wrenching to witness what Krug and Co. do to Mari... but still just as sweet to watch them get their comeuppances.
