Review of The Last House on the Left (2009) by Jessicaann D — 07 May 2011
First of all, WATCH THE ORIGINAL. If you've already done that and enjoyed it it may (MAY) be worth visiting the remake. Several things this remake gains is an interesting, sympathetic son and some great deaths.
What the remake lacks is the pure brilliance of the parent's vengeance. It is hinted at here (and it is never bad to see baddies get their comeuppance), but is much more effective in the original.
The other thing that the remake lacks is villains who really feel bad to their core. Sure, they're bad people... but they feel like your average run-of-the-mill crook murderers. They act desperate not because you feel like they feel desperate.
In any case, while by no means a classic like the original, the remake is worth a watch despite being rather unnecessary.
