Review of The Last House on the Left (2009) by Frits H — 29 Aug 2011
REVENGE is a dish best served cold.".
This remake of the original Wes Craven classic revenge shocker is so over the top in every aspect that it was dead upon arrival. The Last House On The Left is so sadistically brutally violent and bloody that it left me a bit sickened, but everyone evil-doer in the film got what they had comin to them. The prolonged rape scene near the beginning is such a sickening and terribly awfully disturbing scene that I had to fast foreward through it. Director Dennis Illiadas gave the remake a good effort, but it ultimately falls flat. If you're looking for brutal violence then this one if for you, it's more of a shock thriller than a horror film. The classic story should have been left alone, and that's the bottom line.
Tony Goldwyn, Monica Potter and Sara Paxton all give bearable performances, but the acting couldn't save this trainwreck.
