Review of The Last House on the Left (1972) by Stephen S — 17 Feb 2009
A great film that set new boundaries and for the horror genre. 35 years before "torture porn" became the big thing in horror, Wes Craven did it first. The beauty of the film though is the message. As civilized as anyone claims to be, humans are nothing more than animals. When a line is crossed and lives are at stake, primal instinct takes over.
How do I feel about the fact that there is a remake coming out soon? Odd enough, as sacred as the original ought to be, I have no problem with a remake. The other remakes (TCM, F13th, Halloween, etc.) done have been pointless, but i'm actually interested in seeing Last House on the Left getting an update, though it'll never surpass the original. As good as it could be, it'll never break boundaries like the original did.
