Review of The Last House on the Left (1972) by Van M — 10 Mar 2009
An old B rated type classic gore flick from the early 70's.
That's what this is about.
Before you go see the remake (which is actually a remake of a remake), which gives away a lot in the trailer, I suggest you go see this movie first. Parts of the movie have been considered corny, but I like how the square parents turn into blood-thirsty savages out for revenge at the end. The nature of Wes Craven's first movie wasn't that the brutality the four criminals inflect on the two teenage girls, but the way the parents will stop at nothing to get vengeance. Parts of this movie are hard to watch. There's brutal rapes, disembowelments, castrations and full on blood and gore. My only complaint about this movie is that the whole scene involving the police and the chicken truck driver seems misplaced.
