Review of The Last House on the Left (1972) by Michael S — 13 Oct 2009
The original "Last House on the Left" which was the first.
(and many say the best) horror movie by Wes Craven. When he turned it in to the MPAA they wouldn't rate it anything less than and X rating even when he cut the movie roughly in half (at a 50 minute runtime). So in response he released it UNCUT and put an R rating on the posters anyways. The movie in question was one of the most popular grindhouse movies of the day and one of the most shocking movies ever made. It is based upon the movie "The Virgin Spring" by Ingmar Bergman (truly a cinematic master that was waaayyy ahead of his time!). What I am trying to say is this: save your money and don't go see the remake just go down to the video store and rent the original if you are looking for an EXTREME revenge picture. When it comes to horror always watch the original and except no substitutes!
WARNING: This movie is definitely not for the faint of heart or the squemish. You may laugh but I am being dead serious it contains: rape, torture, castration, etc. This is a truly twisted picture, but if you like shock cinema it is good.
