Review of The Last House on the Left (1972) by Grëg W — 16 Oct 2009
One of the notorious "video nasties" banned by in the UK for gratuitous sex and violence. this is also significant as being wes craven's very first film, and boy has he come a long way. while this was one of the less violent video nasties, it still is well worth the rating as a bunch of scenes feature rape and sexual violence, as well as some gory parts.
the story revolves around mari and phyllis, two young girls going to a concert one night. on their way to the concert, they run into trouble in the form of four murderers who proceed to kidnap them and force them into horrifying and graphic violence and sex acts.
mari's parents grow increasingly concerned as they have not heard from her since the previous night, so a search led by the sheriff is started. after the murderers kill and dispose of mari and phyllis, they coincidentally end up staying the night with the at first clueless parents of mari.
after they learn of the murders of mari and phyllis, her parents take matters into their own hands, though, and revenge is gloriously taken upon the murderers. this is now considered a horror classic, while still being very raw and having many errors, and is very enjoyable as well as hard to watch throughout.
this is definitely one for horror fans to watch though.
