Review of The Last House on the Left (1972) by Jean L — 24 Nov 2012
Another horror "classic" that comes off as dated and a bit flat. Considered on the cutting edge of depravity and exploitation for its time, compared to today's torture movies, this is tame.
The acting is bad; so bad that I think Martin Kove, who plays the deputy, is the only actor that went on to have a career which may be deemed successful. David Hess, who plays Krug, played nearly the same character in The House at the End of the Street, making him a one trick pony.
The effects are only okay. I'm giving this an acceptable rating, not because I enjoyed it, but because Wes Craven, who wrote and directed, was willing to stretch the envelope and grow the genre that I love: horror.
