Review of The Last House on the Left (1972) by Jimmy R — 18 Aug 2009
The Last House on The Left is one of Wes Craven's best horror films. In my opinion, it wasn't as great as the remake, but it is still a classic. Craven takes us on a thrill ride showing us the truth of what happens in the world, and showing that even nice people can get hurt.
But it all comes down to the choices that people make. For example: weed in particular may seem fun, but until the consequences come along, someone is liable of getting hurt. Thats probably one of the main plot points in the film.
When I saw this low budget movie, I liked it only because of the style and story that Craven had given it. This indeed started Craven's filmmaking career, which is one of the best horror films ever made.
Even though it isn't as chilling as his Nightmare on Elm Street, its still thrilling to watch. At some times, watching it left me wondering why the hell am I watching this, only because of the gruesome situations that the characters were in.
It also marked its tagline as "To avoid fainting, keep repeating "It's only a movie...It's only a movie..." One of the most memorable taglines of all time...
