Review of The Last House on the Left (1972) by Stephen L — 22 May 2011
Very graphic and very exploitative, this movie is the antithesis of the pussified remake that came out in 2009. I wouldn't call it a good film because the acting, script and taste are awful. I can't help feeling that there's some kind of message that Craven is getting and I'm sure there's a message that Ingmar Bergman was getting at (director of the source material "The Virgin Spring") but whatever it was, it went way over my head and came off as a brutal shock-fest.
And I must ask, WTF was up with the music? This is some of the most graphic stuff I have seen in a movie and it plays what sounds like Simon and Garfunkel. The end credits song made it seem like it was giving the middle finger to anybody who was offended by this movie and given the fact that it's about rape, I'm guessing that's a lot of people.
