Review of The Last House on the Left (1972) by Tomasan — 07 Mar 2009
This movie is truly shocking and terrifying. It is saturated with that strange, 70's drugged out, being in the woods on acid feeling. The plot is very realistic and probably is quite fearful for female audiences.
The irony in this movie is just out of hand! Everyone will tell you that 'Elm Street' is Craven's undisputed masterpiece, but if you go back further into the eerie 70's backwoods, you'll find this gruesome work of art.
I give it 5 starz because it is a perfect horror movie. Mainly due to the realistic nature of it, but the characters and the acting are finely portrayed as well. Craven also throws in some really 'respectful' hittings on police intelligence and does a great job portraying the sick, outside world of society through the eyes of a group of psychotic junkies that get their jollies off by killing and raping the innocent.
Timelessly sick. It would take an awful lot of effort for the upcoming remake to out-do this original classic version. But I am not expecting too much out of the remake. No remake is ever truly better than the orig.
I am anxious to see it though.
