Review of The Last House on the Left (1972) by Waynewv37 W — 27 May 2009
What a classic. they just don't make movies like this anymore. it is a wildly entertaining....albeit, equally disturbing...ride of a movie. over time, some of the scenes have become downright campy and silly, but overall I still think this movie holds up.
the score is horrible (ahhh, the70's) and cheesy, but the soundtrack, due to clever placement in the context of the film, is pretty amusing, in a sick way. kind of like deliverance. you can definitely see the makings of a brilliant director in wes craven, and his production team which also includes sean s.
cunningham who would go on to Friday the 13th fame. and a martin cove sighting! nice. he plays one of the all time dumbest movie cops, but again, somehow in this sick world of a movie, it is amusing. the juxtaposition in this film is quite brilliant.
i'll be really curious to see where they took the remake of this. in a lot of ways it could improve, but in a lot of ways, it doesn't have a chance.
