Review of The Last House on the Left (1972) by Thomas M — 28 Feb 2010
The first time I watched this I found it a tough watch and felt sickened by the slapstick antics of two comedy cops obviously chucked to take the edge off things. The tone jarred badly and to a degree on a later watch still does.
It also still has the power to appall the viewer (and Im not talking about the amateurish performances here) with the things that the two kidnapped girls are made to do. Not as powerful or disturbing as it's reputation would have you believe compared to what goes in movies now, but for it's time it must have been a real mindfuck.
