Review of The Last Exorcism (2010) by Private U — 10 Aug 2014
This film had so much potential. They spent so long setting out their stall, getting me to invest in the family and then totally ruined it with an inexplicable ending. I am a huge fan of the creepy-profetic-children's-drawing convention, I think it is chilling when it's done right, but this prophesy was a massive anticlimax.
No explanation, no time to build up tension, over in seconds and utterly devoid of meaning. The style that had informed the whole of the first two acts just disappeared. I feel like I've had a sneeze interrupted - it was all building up so nicely and then BAM, it's all gone - so annoying!
