The Last Emperor is probably the most elaborate and subversive film produced by the Italians; it serves as the antithesis to The Bicycle Thieves. The film's wonderful color scheme, surreal images, and sexual themes are certainly its high points.
The Last Emperor will be remembered for many years to come.
