Review of The Last Emperor (1987) by Mark C — 07 Apr 2009
An epic in the truest sense of the word. Bertolucci reaches a new height by orchestrating such a large story into just under four hours (editors, take note). Art Direction in this alone is worth watching, if not for the brilliant cinematography, beautiful music, and story.
This film really sets the bar for biopics. Forget all of those Ron Howard historical/biopics. This is how it's done: a perfect blend of classicism and neo-realism.
