Once again I was amazed by a movie I knew nothing of. Winner of Best Picture in 1987 this film is a stunning portrayal of the life of China's last Emperor Pu-Yi. It is historically fascinating, visually remarkable, and fantastic all the way through.
John Lone is excellent as Pu-Yi. He has the ability to make even an Emperor seem human and flawed. The director Bernard Bertolucci does an unbelievable job weaving the flashbacks into the story flawlessly.
