Review of The Last Emperor (1987) by James B — 24 Sep 2011
Wonderful epic, but it's just unfortunate I had to watch the extended edition which was close to four hours, and you can guess it......I found it was way too overlong and stuffed with unnecessary scenes. The story is captivating, told in flashbacks, about the emperor that decided to westernize himself and get away from the forbidden city in where he was crowned as a baby.
The film covers most of the Chinese / Manchurian history from 1908 to 1967, the lifeline of the late emperor Pu Yi.
The first ever film to be shot in the forbidden city.
