Review of The Last Emperor (1987) by Joseph W — 25 Oct 2011
Pu Yi is a truly tragic character. At first one might think this film is about a man who has everything and loses it. But in reality, it is about a man who never had anything at all. His power and position were an illusion.
His whole life he was used like a puppet. I found this to be a gripping story. The final scene where Pu Yi buys a ticket to the Forbidden City and is all alone, walking through his old home, is very touching.
A perfect ending really.
