Review of The Last Emperor (1987) by Radio Ejemplar — 15 Nov 2008
Wow when I sat down to watch this and realized it was 3 hours 40 minutes long I said no way. I was going to give it 15 minutes and then make a judgment call. I was glued the entire time. The film isn't action-packed, the acting isn't super amazing, but when the former Emperor tells the story of his life, and thus tells the story of china during his life time, it is so fascinating.
China has such a unique history and America sees very little of it in Hollywood cinema. Sure the film is really long, but it is worth it. This film is a piece of art.
