Review of The Last Emperor (1987) by Brian S — 29 Sep 2008
The life of China's Last Emperor Puyi and China's journey to its current state are both skillfully examined by Best Director winner Bernardo Bertolucci. An enjoyable historical epic The Last Emperor is especially interesting due to the fact that it was filmed in the Forbidden City.
Backed up by an amazing screenplay, strong performances from Peter O'Toole and John Lone, and brilliant directing and Costume Design, The Last Emperor won 9 Academy Awards in 1988 inlcuding an extermely well deserved Best Picture(1987) Oscar.
4 stars.
