Review of The Last Dragon (1985) by Mark H — 04 Apr 2015
Characters like Bruce Leroy, Sho'nuff "The Shogun of Harlem", a great cast and good soundtrack this Black Kung-fu parody was a.head of its time and woefully unappreciated. It was a great Kung-fu movie in its own right but with a Motown vibe.
It is witty, well written and very fun. Every Bruce Lee fan wanted to be him, and young LeRoy Green is no exception. It's a story of an innocent boy, his family, his love of Kung-fu, a beatiful young girl he longs for, and a villain that wants to prove he's the best martial artist at Leroy's expense.
It's a Chinese movie by Motown, set in Harlem, it never takes itself too seriously. It delivers as an action flick, a comedy, and love story all rolled into one (not to mention showcasing some of Berry Gordy's record label acts as well).
You will love this film.
