Review of The Last Detail (1973) by Jamy S — 25 Jan 2008
Superbly written and acted tale of a lifelong "swabbie" (Nicholson) who is in charge of taking a naive young sailor (Quaid) on a road trip to the brig, thanks to a conviction for having made a foolish mistake.
Nicholson's character is offended that the youth has barely experienced life -- he's a virgin in more ways than one -- and so elects to take the opportunity of the trip to give the boy some experience to take to the brig with him.
A 70s coming-of-age road trip, with political undertones about the nature of authority, very much reflective of the era. Engaging and highly watchable.
