Review of The Last Detail (1973) by James M — 13 Apr 2010
Ah, the 70's. The Golden Age of Jack Nicholson's career.
"The Last Detail" is about two shore patrol officers, played by Jack Nicholson and Otis Young, who are given the task of escorting a young man, played by Randy Quaid, to the Portsmouth Naval Prison. Along the way they get to know the young man a little more and grow fond of him, which makes their task much harder.
The relationship with these three guys is what makes this movie so great. You love the group, but know that they still have to do their job in the end. The end is good because it doesn't stoop to anything cliche. It's purely genuine.
The performances in this movie are great. I recommend this film.
