Review of The Last Circus (2010) by Kevin R — 07 Sep 2013
It was born dead.
Javier comes from a long line of clowns in his family. He is orphaned by a tragic event in his countries' past, but eventually matures and becomes a "sad clown." Shortly after being hired by a circus he falls in love with a trapeze artist; unfortunately, she is in love with an abusive lover who is also a clown. Can Javier save the trapeze artist or will he get beat to hell by her boyfriend?
"A clown with a machete...you're going to scare the shit out of them!".
Alex de la Iglesia, director of The Day of the Beast, 800 Bullets, Films to Keep You Awake, The Oxford Murders, and As Luck Would Have It, delivers Last Circus. The storyline for this picture is actually very good. I also loved the characters, dialogue, and action sequences. The cast also delivers awesome performances and includes Carlos Arces, Antonio de la Torre, Carolina Bang, and Sancho Gracia.
"Suck my cock...but one by one.".
The Last Circus is a movie I discovered at NYC Comic Con last fall at the Magnet studios table. The premise sounded interesting and I was lucky to find this film on Netflix. The storyline for this movie is awesome for about two-thirds of this picture (I would honestly score the first two-thirds of this film a 9 or 10). Unfortunately, the film takes a strange twice at the end and the film kind of falls apart (which is unfortunate since there is a magnificent story containing interesting characters provided to the audience). In the end, this turns out to be an above average picture that should have been better.
"Where are you going? I can see your ass.".
Grade: C+.
