Review of The Last Castle (2001) by Ingvar Ottergren N — 15 Jul 2007
I really liked that the good guys were a bunch of theives, liars, and crooks, and the bad guys were the United States millitary. The problem is that the movie depended on this to ensure there are complexities in the hero and villan, when infact both were rather boring.
We never saw an evil or selfish side to Redford or the caring side to Gandolfini. The only interesting characters were Mark Ruffalo and a corporal with a speach problem. Loses points for doing a poor job of tying chess into the theme of the movie.
In the end this was an interesting movie, but it tried to make you think it was better than it was.
