Review of The Last Castle (2001) by Sein-Yat C — 05 Jul 2009
This is a tale of leadership. None finer. It's a story of contrasts which pits an insecure, self-obsessed, powerful authority against an admitted criminal whom men will follow to their deaths, and an oppressive culture of guilt against an inspiring appeal to honor, self-respect, and life's intrinsic value.
It's a battle of wills between two leaders driven by very different kinds of pride. They square off in a film which relishes its own breathless suspense. Magnificent acting, refreshingly precise cinematography, and a majestic score bring the story to gut-wrenching life.
"The Last Castle" laid siege to my heart.
