Review of The Last Boy Scout (1991) by Chris K — 05 May 2008
Direly underrated, and totally impossible to defend. It's, as one critic put it in 1991, "the cinematic equivalent of a hate-crime." Pre-"Kiss Kiss Bang Bang", it's arguably the Shane Blackiest of Shane Black's movies -- the most foul, the most misogynistic, the most gobsmackingly violent, it has the deepest sense of masculine self-hatred, and minute for minute, some of the best one-liners of his career.
(Plus a few of the worst.).
