Review of The Last Boy Scout (1991) by Rick R — 08 Jun 2008
The Last Boy Scout (1991).
What can you say about a Tony Scott action movie staring Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans, except "Hold onto your seats." And, let's not forget to mention a very young Halle Berry.
Bruce Willis plays Joe Hallenbeck, a down on his luck X-Secret Service agent, turned private detective. His life, his marriage, his relationship with his daughter, is all in the toilet. He gets a job to protect a stripper (Halle Berry), the girlfriend of Jimmy Dix (Damon Wayans), a drug addicted X-football player.
The Halle Berry character is blackmailing the football team owner to get Jimmy back on the team, but the owner and a powerful senator have poor Halle killed off. Joe and Jimmy find all of this out and go after these guys and excitement ensues.
It's your typical raunchy guy flick / buddy picture with all sorts of explosions, gun shots, and one-liners. Joe has this way of insulting the wife of the bad guy who's about ready to kill him; sort of overpowering him with laughter.
It's totally predictable and clichéd, but still a fun movie to watch.
