Review of The Laramie Project (2002) by Angela M — 20 Nov 2010
Finally got to see this movie. A very moving account of a shockingly inhumane event told through dramatisations of interviews with real characters from Laramie and by a stellar cast. The farmer's point about the town's "live and let live" approach to the matter really meaning, "If I don't tell you I'm a fag, you won't beat the crap out of me" hits hard .
.. and brings to mind the glaring similarities with the unjust DADT military policy in the US and prevailing Section 377A laws in Singapore. How does one reconcile society perpetuating such deep set hatred when the same religious basis (derived from an ancient book that also declares other forms of "abomination") has allowed many of the others to have been conveniently lifted or disregarded over time? Most baffling!!
