Review of The Land That Time Forgot (1974) by Mike L — 01 Aug 2012
As someone who has read most of Burroughs books during my childhood this was one I was excited to see. Back then anytime there were dinosaurs on the screen, no matter how cheap they looked, was cause for excitement.
Doug McClure was the B-movie king back then and he is the star here in this tale of a lost lush land surrounded by ice that holds the remains of prehistoric creatures. Set during WWI it plots a group of shipwrecked British sailors and a German U-boat, who become lost and adrift when they discover the lost land. The group discover oil in which to make their escape however the submarine sink while trying to escape and leaves behind the two main stars.
As a British picture there is a genuine intention to make a quality movie with a limited budget and time. The story is a good one and the script does well for what the special effects were limited to back then.
A decent childhood Saturday matinee movie.
