Review of The Land Before Time (1988) by Ryan V — 28 Jan 2014
The Land Before Time stars Littlefoot, a baby brontosaurus who is separated from his herd. Banding together with a motley crew of other small dinosaurs, Littlefoot decides to seek out the Great Valley, a legendary land where food is plentiful and predators are scarce.
Barring the group's path are their prejudices about each other (And, also, a monstrous tyrannosaurus). This animated fable is one of the more conventional achievements of Don Bluth, but a childhood affection for dinosaurs made The Land Before Time one of my viewing staples.
I would still recommend this as a family-friendly choice today, but I'd also caution newcomers from checking out the many inferior sequels.
