Review of The Land Before Time (1988) by Martin R — 20 Feb 2014
"The Land Before Time" is a film about loss, adventure, growing up, friendship, and ultimately redemption. It has a truly powerful story, an exceptionally moving score by James Horner, and enough emotion to draw you to the film.
..or keep you away. When I was a young lad, I could watch "The Land Before Time" without a problem, the emotional aspect was something that I could look past. But for me, at least in this point of my life [having not seen it in years], to be able to watch it without approaching the brink of crying--I don't think that's possible.
That being said, I have to acknowledge the fact that this is a challenging film, like, I really don't know how it's even a "kid's movie." Yet, despite the strong content, I think kids should see it, I really do.
"The Land Before Time" is a classic and while I might hesitate to watch it ever again, I can't deny the effectiveness and the sheer power of its story.
